Ebay:Lotus Elise

You may remember reading our original post on this Lotus Elise and feeling the abject horror that accompanies the site of such a car pointing towards the sky. Well, the owner has decided to salvage what he can from the debacle that saw his beloved Elise tumble from a mechanic's lift by selling it on eBay. Actually, he's really selling it because a bad motorcycle accident left his leg not strong enough to shift the car anymore. He does give pretty good disclosure of the accident on the auction page, saying that his buddy, a body repair man, could fix the damage done by the fall for $2,000. Hmm... no thanks. It sounds like the car is still in driveable condition, however, and at the moment the bidding has reached only $13,601 with a litle over 3.5 days to go. Somebody needs to give this car a good home and nurse it back to health.

Ebay To Suspend All Virtual Item Auctions

A new report from technology news site Slashdot has revealed that online auction house Ebay intends to remove listings for all virtual items, regardless of type or game title, clamping down on third-party sales of gold and accounts from many popular MMOs.

Despite the Slashdot piece
further explaining continued in-game item and currency sales through third party firms as IGE, previously profiled on Gamasutra in August, and Sony Online Entertainment's own internal Station Exchange for its line-up of MMO titles, eBay has decided to close down all virtual item listings due to their inherent 'legal complexities.' The policy currently in effect covers virtual items of any type, including in-game currency, items, and entire accounts or characters from MMOs, even up to, the report notes, 'neopoints' currency for casual virtual-pet website Neopets. Speaking to Slashdot, eBay spokesperson Hani Durzy told the site that the decision, rather than a new policy to end auctions, was instead simply a follow-through of existing site policy that sellers must own the intellectual property being sold. Durzy is quoted as saying the decision is intended to be "for the overall health of the marketplace," and that item listings would be pulled without punitive action for initial offenders, withholding actual seller removal for repeat offenders.

However, a large amount of virtual currency and objects from games such as World Of Warcraft and Ultima Online were still available on eBay as of press time, raising questions as to how swiftly and comprehensively the massive site could crack down on those posting such items - or, indeed, whether an active removal process was occurring.

Ebay.Win your own Emmy

Is your name Wilfrid Shingleton, Julian Sacks, Jean Taillandier, Robert Christides or Cheryal Kearney? No? Then in truth, you don't deserve this Emmy award, which was presented to them in 1980 for a TV show called Gauguin The Savage.

But what the hell, the trophy's being flogged on eBay, so anyone can have it. It actually belonged to Christides, and was awarded for Outstanding Art Direction for a Limited Series or a Special. But if you put it in a glass case and don't let anyone near it, you can pretend you won it for your starring appearance in Baywatch. Or something. The current bid is $710.

Ebay. Ferrari Enzo Golddigga

Yahoo! News is reporting that a woman in Germany is auctioning off her Ferrari Enzo on eBay with a little added-value bonus – herself. The 26-year-old who claims she worked as a singer in Syria has put the starting price at $1.6 million, and while we have yet to find the actual eBay listing for the car and its cargo, Yahoo! News reports there has yet to be a bid. At the time of this writing, the only two (1, 2)Enzos on eBay Motors did not include a woman with their purchase price.

The woman, who goes by the name of Leila, says she'll meet prospective buyers, but requires a bidder's passport and proof of capital. Good thing we never leave home without proof of capital, otherwise that'd be one very awkward first date. One of the Enzos on eBay that has only 465 miles on its odo can be bought for the Buy It Now price of $1.2 million, which means this woman believes she's a steal at $400,000.

Ebay.Get a life-size Lara Croft statue

You know, her out of Tomb Raider. Tsk, how quickly we forget. Lara Croft was the Myleene Klass of her day, if that helps jog your memory. Except more good at shooting, and less good at the piano. Tomb Raider has recently recaptured part of its former glories after a couple of duff games, and one eBayer has seized the opportunity to flog their big statue of Lara.

It stands 6'6 high (is she supposed to be that tall?), and is decorated in the full Tomb Raider gear, complete with two guns. And it's already had one bid, taking the price to $599.

Melissa Lamb sold box in a box on EBay

But not just any box, this one was the star of "My box in a box" inspired from the Timberlake and Samberg sketch screened on NBC just before Christmas. Leah Kauffman conceived the idea and contacted Melissa Lamb through a craigslist advert who co-wrote and performed in the video (Craigslist is part owned by eBay).

The auction closed at $1525 with $1000 going to Philabundance and the balance going to Save the Music.

Ebay.A-Team Bank Notes

One of the stranger items that I've come across on eBay are these A-Team banknotes (not legal tender of course). Basically, with Dirk Benedict being in the Big Brother house, quite a few A-Team related items have cropped up. In amongst all the signed photos and the like, are these odd items.

Sizing up at 17cm x 8cm, these A-Team notes have serial numbers and great images of the men themselves . So, for £3.99, you get dollars that star "Hannibal" Smith, Templeton "Faceman" Peck , Sgt. Bosco "Bad Attitude" Baracus (B.A. or Mr. T to you and me), "Howling Mad" Murdock plus two more Mr T Notes!

eBay: Chop-top Caravan

This is just too sick for words. Maybe it was a factory attempt at ditching the soccer mom image. Or perhaps it's a reject from an episode of that failed pilot, Pimp My Mom's Ride. Whatever the motivation, somebody took a 1997 Chrysler Co. minivan and decided to turn it into a tri-tone, one-seat, open-top lowrider. The eBay description alternately describes it as a Chrysler and a Plymouth, but the nose is definitely a Dodge. So your guess is as good as ours as to which it truly is, but it's sort of a moot point. So little of the original vehicle is left anyway.

The seller begs us to believe he isn't responsible for this creation, and says that the vehicle runs and drives, but doesn't recommend taking it on the road as is. It's really a project car that somebody started and didn't finish. This Grand Voyager comes with a 3.0 V6 (with only 127,448 miles on it) that "runs decent," but "puffs some smoke at start up." The automatic shifts fine, but the van "rides like a buckboard." Perhaps the hydraulics were never sorted properly, as the tires rub, as well. If you've always wanted your own outrageous minivan conversion but didn't have the guts to take a torch to your mom's ride, then maybe this would be $1,000 well spent to get you started and avoid getting grounded. Check out eBay auction number 290070663925 if this sounds like your kind of thing

eBay announced it has agreed to acquire privately held StubHub, a leading online marketplace for the resale of event tickets. According to eBay's press release, "the acquisition will enable eBay to expand its presence and offering in the online tickets segment, while allowing StubHub to continue to scale its business with the ecommerce expertise and resources of eBay."

eBay has agreed to purchase StubHub for an estimated aggregate value of approximately $310M, which will include the company's net cash as of the closing. The final amount will be determined at closing based on a formula and be payable in cash. The Most Memorable Sales on EBay

ebay it´s fantastic..jajajjaaa..

1.The Virgin Mary Toast
Bought by the internet casino firm goldenpalace.com for a hole-in-the-ceiling $28,000, this decade-old piece of toast had the supposed image of the Virgin Mary imprinted on it. It was sold by a Mrs. Duyser, who said she first noticed the image of a lady imprinted on a burnt piece of toast back in 1994. She's claimed that it's brought her luck-in the enviable form of $70,000 in winnings at a local Florida casino. All she's done so far? Stored it in a plastic container, the toast kept remarkably well but even before the sale, Mrs. Duyser cautioned that it was "not intended for consumption". Talk about luck!

2.Dorito Chip (The Pope's Hat)
A piece of Dorito chip that looked like the pope's hat sold for $1209. Together with this, the online casino goldenvillage.com has been garnering some odd publicity by their "supernatural" eBay purchases, including a piece of chicken breast resembling the late Pope John Paul II for $232.50 and the Holy Pretzel that was said to resemble the Virgin Mary cradling the infant Jesus for an obscene $10,600. The showstopper acquisition of the internet gambling house is a $65,000 'ghost cane', a metal walking cane that Mary Anderson of Indiana put up on sale, hoping to ease her 6-year old son's apprehensions that his grandfather's ghost was haunting their home.

3.Bridgeville, Sold!
The tiny San Francisco area county was the talk of the town when an unknown developer snagged it in an eBay auction for $1.8M. While the deal was never closed and the winning bidder backed out, the news set a frenzy of real estate postings on eBay. Succeeding postings of the town, that dates back to the early 1900s and comes with its own functional post office, cemetery, a riverbank, and some houses and townsfolk, have been unsuccessful. It was finally bought in 2004 by businessman Bruce Krall for $700,000, who relisted the town on eBay in 2006.

4.Ad Space on Your Head
Andrew Fischer of Omaha, Nebraska was not kidding when he auctioned off his head on eBay. The winner would be entitled to have a non-permanent tattoo on Fischer's forehead for 30 days as an advertisement campaign. By the time the auction ended, Fischer received a bid of $37,375 which he says will be used to pay for college. The winning bidder was SnoreStop, one of the leading sellers of anti-snoring medications in the United States. Of the affair, Fischer announced that "I am proud to be aligned with a product that has proven so helpful to so many people, though I doubt I'll be getting much sleep over the next four weeks!"

5.Virginity, To the Highest Bidder
English university student Rose Reid posted her virginity on eBay and within three days was flooded with more than 400 offers and a bid of £10,000. Asked about the novelty of her idea, Reid explained "It started as a joke, and ended up as 'why not?' I am devoting too much time to paid employment and not enough to studying. I am not achieving as much as I could. I'll leave university £15,000 in debt. That's why I am taking this drastic action." eBay eventually withdrew her listing, though Rosie carried on the auction through her own website, closing a final deal with a 44-year old engineer for £8,400.Celebrity Memorabilia

Will the real iPhone please stand up.Ebay

i think a fake...sure.

There has been much speculation thus far on the upcoming iPhone, but somebody apparently managed to snag one of these hybrid cellphone/MP3 player devices during Christmas and is now offering it up for sale on eBay at a wallet crunching $500. What do you get for plonking down that amount of dough? Apparently, not very much.

Half a grand will net you a 1.8" touchscreen display, a 2 megapixel camera, a microSD memory card slot, USB connectivity, and built-in MP3 playback capability. Of course, there are more reasons to believe that this is a hoax instead of the real thing, but who can really tell these days? Do leave a comment on what you think about it

EBay Find of the Day: "New" '73 Volvo P1800ES

If a car's been sitting at a dealership for 34 years, you'd expect it to develop a certain amount of vehicular arthritis, in the form of brittle rubber, aged braking components and rodent havens. In the case of this Volvo 1800ES, originally owned by Gordon Turner, proprietor of Turner Volvo, it's recieved regular attention during the 10,000 miles it's accrued during its time as a demo car.

For the uninitiated, 1800s are the "exotic" vintage Volvo and nice examples can trade for several thousand dollars. This one's got a starting bid of $20,000 and the reserve has yet to be met.More after the jump

Cross-Dresser: Miata fronts as Z3 on EBay

When does a 1995 Mazda Miata cease being a Miata? We're not sure it ever truly does, but the owner of this particular example put in a Herculean effort to try and make it happen. No folks, your eyes do not deceive you: despite all the Bimmer-look trickery, the car you see here is a '95 Miata with 85,000 miles on the odometer, and if you want it, it's just a click away at eBay.

Sporting an engine and tranny that reportedly have under 40,000 miles on them, the pseudo-Z3 is painted Atlanta Blue and actually sports authentic BMW lights (front and rear), grilles and badging. The winner will also get an assortment of other accessories, including a set of underdrive pulleys, thrown in on the deal. Click the image above to view the auction, where the seller has several more photos loaded.

Star buys Ebay

Film buffs can find a double helping of unique memorabilia on eBay this week. Freddy Krueger's fedora, as worn mainly by a stunt double, can be yours for just US$10k. I'll take two.

If Freddie's too scary for you, how about a life-size Sylvester Stallone complete with Apollo Creed shorts, at a much more reasonable US$2750.

Interestingly both items are listed as Buy It Nows: this kind of high-profile collectible is the traditional stronghold of the Auction format, and indeed, seems made for it. Are we now seeing the very last death throes of the eBay Auction listing

eBay Contextual Ads Expected In January 2007

eBay AdContext, the much awaited Adwords style contextual advertising program from ebay, will only be available to general publishers in the first quarter of 2007.

Like Adsense, this new eBay Ads system will also scan the text of your Web site for keywords and returns links to relevant eBay auctions. For example, if your webpage is about graphics software, you could expect to see link to ebay auctions about Photoshop Software, Training DVDs or even Photoshop User Magazine subscription.

Evan Schuman reason why AdContext could be a more paying alternative to publishers than Adwords:

The difference with Google's AdWords is an assumed greater time urgency. Someone might look at a Google ad and file it away for possible future action. An advertiser might never link that inquiry two months later with the Google ad. But the EBay link would likely be to a time-limited auction, theoretically making a quick purchase - and an associated clear advertiser ROI - more likely.

There won't be any third party ads but only links to auctions listed on the ebay.com website that match the keywords on your webpage.

eBay AdContext - eBay Affiliates interested in trying out the beta can send an email to adcontext@ebay.com.

Colorado woman selling snow on EBay

As if Colorado residents don't have enough snow to dig out from, one resident is offering more for a price on eBay. Starting bids were holding steady Friday at 99 cents for snow from "Blizzard I and Blizzard II" being offered by Mary Walker. She and husband, Jim, got the idea for selling snow after shoveling mounds from two storms a week apart that together dumped more than 4 feet along the Front Range.

"I figured eBay has ghosts and all sorts of weird stuff, so why not snow?" said Walker, who teaches business workshops on employee communications.

How much snow 99 cents or whatever the winning bid gets depends. Walker's auction notice suggests avoiding shipping and handling charges by stopping by their home and picking it up — in a dump truck.

Only 10 offerings of snow are available and the proceeds are earmarked for a used snowblower for Jim or a pair of shovels.

She says she doesn't really expect to find a buyer for their blizzard overstock.
"We just wanted to just give some folks a laugh," she said.
